Shinshu’s Tranquil Pace: Tokyo, Matsumoto, Nakasendo Trail, and Kyoto

Shinshu’s Tranquil Pace

10-Day Customized Journey

Shinshu’s Tranquil Pace

Tokyo > Nagano > Matsumoto > Nakasendo Trail > Kyoto

While many routes connect the modern marvel of Tokyo with the ancient heart of Kyoto, our Shinshu’s Tranquil Pace journey remains one of our most cherished.

Your adventure begins in vibrant Tokyo, offering a perfect introduction to the essence of Japan. From there, you will be swiftly transported to the mountainous, unspoiled beauty of the Shinshu inland region. Here, tranquility awaits as you find respite and cultural immersion during a memorable stay at a traditional temple.

Continue your path to the historic, folk art hub of Matsumoto. Dominated by the majestic 16th-century Crow Castle, this sleepy town is a treasure trove of local makers, artisans, and mingei (folk arts), waiting for you to discover, and a perfect starting point for many national parks and trails.

Next, step back in time onto the Nakasendo Trail, often called the Samurai Trail. This historic highway, lined with preserved post towns, once welcomed travelers journeying between Edo (Tokyo) and Kyoto during the Edo era.

Whether you choose to hike a portion of the trail or simply absorb its history, you are guaranteed a spectacular experience. A breathtakingly beautiful train ride through winding valleys offers views of Japan’s serene countryside before you arrive in Kyoto, the nation’s dignified ancient capital.

Embrace the slow, intentional pace of this journey. We highly recommend adding private visits with local makers to truly complete your tranquil Shinshu adventure.
